Day 2 – Arrived in Taichung!

12.45pm

I arrived at The Carlton. The reception took my luggage from me. Later on it occurred to me that he didn’t issue me a tag? I hope I’ll have no problem claiming my luggage.

I hop onto an Uber.

1.05pm

I arrive at Natural Way Six Arts Cultural Centre. Photos to do the job again.

I felt a bit cheated because there was nothing much here. Literally came to take photos only but at least the photos came out nice.

1.15pm

I commence my 30min walk to Taroko Mall.

Because it’s a Monday, the points of interest are all closed. So I decided to make the afternoon about shopping instead.

Unlike Taipei, I can walk for very long in Taichung without sighting a single human.

1.43pm

Reached the mall! The first hit of AC was damn cathartic.

I spot a familiar looking place!

So I took a tea break to recharge!

Went around the mall but found nothing to buy. I was close to getting some hair clips from H&M but upon closer look… Check out the dust on this thing.

3.10pm

I reach Lalaport, the second mall that I was gonna check out. It was a 10mins’ walk from Taroko Mall.

There was a bookstore that looked very nice!

Left empty handed. All Chinese books. I am beginning to get a reality check speaking Mandarin in Taiwan. Some shop attendant even thought I was from Hong Kong. 有冇搞錯喎.

I will never tell people “ My Chinese is how zai” ever again.

My Chinese is only slightly better than some people around me.

Lowry’s Farm made me think of M (bff).

If M (human) were here, we be playing this together!

Went to the pet store to see if I could score something for M (canine). ‘twas not a successful attempt.

I couldn’t find anything to buy even though I was keeping an open mind. There was nothing to buy because 1. there was nothing I can’t find in Singapore and 2. they are not cheaper than Singapore so there was no point.

Oh! I did get a pair of socks from Muji though. But that was totally for survival. I walked too much and the friction was beginning to hurt my feet.

I swear it looks better in real life. Anyway it got the job done for NTD$99. It was the cheapest pair of socks I could find.

4.35pm

I Ubered to Yizhong Street Night Market.

I scored 2 pairs of socks and a Tshirt at exorbitant prices but at least the former were made in Taiwan and the latter was made in Korea.

5.45pm

Ubered back to the hotel and checked in. Before I could ask about my luggage, I was told that it had already been sent up to my room! Awesome service there!

There’s a Sogo nearby, I’ll probably go check it out tomorrow night or after I complete my itinerary.

Today’s dinner is…

The plan was actually to pick up something from the street market but nothing appealed to me. I’m very happy with my Burger King actually. It was like 9 SGD but the Taiwan tourism board paid for me!

It’s a salmon and shrimp double patty. Pretty nice once I picked all the onions out.

Devoured the 铁蛋 and 豆干 today too. They were alright, won’t need to try again.

I think the hotel should pay me man. I had to straighten their very crooked bedside lamp shades that were annoying the hell out of me and what is this garbage man?

Because I couldn’t possibly spend 2 nights staring at that mess of cables…
